Francis Bacon: A Terrible Beauty

Francis Bacon: A Terrible Beauty celebrates the centenary of Francis Bacon´s birth at 63 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin on 28 October 1909 and our immense archive of Francis Bacon Studio material. This exhibition is the first mayor showing of the archival material since the Hugh Lane relocated the Studio from London to Dublin in 1998.
Rarely exhibited paintings by Francis Bacon dating from 1944 to 1989, photographs by John Deakin, Peter Beard and Eadweard Muybridge, as well as unfinished paintings and slashed canvases offer the viewer an astonishing new perspective on Francis Bacon, one of the greatest figurative painters of the 20th century. Francis Bacon: A Terrible Beauty provides a unique opportunity to reappraise the artist’s oeuvre through selected paintings supported by previously unseen material from the archives.
